Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to Shelby County Criminal History. Viewing its material, following a resource link, or using a search feature means that you accept all terms stated here. Do not continue to use the website if you disagree with any condition.

NO FCRA USE. Shelby County Criminal History is privately operated and has no connection to a county, Kentucky, or federal government body. The website and its advertising partners do not offer services for credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its role is limited to helping readers locate Shelby County and Kentucky criminal-record resources. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

Shelby County Criminal History is a privately run reference resource, not a government service. It does not hold official records, submit court forms, retrieve files from an agency, or perform an official background check on anyone's behalf.

The resource directs readers to actual custodians, including the Shelby County Sheriff, Shelby District and Circuit Courts, the Kentucky Court of Justice Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. Some pages also connect readers with outside research tools. Records remain with the official offices. Access to local agency records is governed in part by the Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, subject to its definitions and exemptions, while KSP criminal-history dissemination is governed by KRS 17.150.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of Shelby County Criminal History is conditioned on avoiding the following conduct:

  • Violating any applicable local, Kentucky, or federal law
  • Stalking, intimidating, harassing, or threatening another person with information found here
  • Relying on website content for a credit, employment, insurance, or tenant-screening decision
  • Attempting to enter restricted systems or obtain access without permission
  • Sending bots, automated extraction tools, or scrapers through the website
  • Interfering with site performance or another visitor's ability to use it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information obtained here or through a linked tool to threaten, stalk, harass, intimidate, or unlawfully discriminate against a person. Kentucky's registry rule is especially clear. KSP publishes the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry for public safety awareness under KRS 17.580, not for retaliation or vigilante conduct. KSP warns that registry-based harassment may violate KRS 525.070 or KRS 525.080 and can result in criminal punishment.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Shelby County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It creates no credit report, consumer report, or official background check. The same limitation applies to how readers may use material reached through this website. Website content and linked search tools may not be used to:

  • Make a hiring, retention, or termination choice
  • Evaluate a rental applicant or screen a prospective tenant
  • Set insurance eligibility, rates, or coverage terms
  • Assess credit or make a lending decision
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, government program, or any other matter controlled by the FCRA

A check needed for a regulated purpose must come through the legally authorized Kentucky State Police fingerprint process or a provider that complies with the FCRA. A public AOC CourtNet report is a Kentucky court-record report, not an FBI or KSP fingerprint rap sheet and not a substitute for the channel required by law.

5. No Legal Advice

Website content supplies general information, not legal advice. A summary of Shelby County records cannot determine how a pending charge, warrant, conviction, or Kentucky expungement rule applies to one person's facts. Advice about those issues must come from a lawyer licensed in Kentucky.

6. No Warranties

All website content and functions are offered "as is." No promise is made that:

  • Every item is current, complete, or accurate at all times
  • Access will remain continuous and free from interruption
  • Each page is free of faults, bugs, or security weaknesses
  • A partner search feature will return complete or correct matches

Criminal-record status can change when a charge is filed or dismissed, a disposition is entered, or a Kentucky court grants relief under the state's expungement statutes. Confidential matters are restricted, and an agency may withhold records under a valid exemption. Therefore, content here must not be treated as an official statement from the Shelby County courts, Sheriff, KSP, AOC, or another public office.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to the Shelby County Sheriff's website, Kentucky court systems, KSP, the AOC, legal-aid resources, and outside search providers. Following any link places the visitor on a service controlled by someone else. Shelby County Criminal History does not accept responsibility for an external service's availability, fees, content, privacy practices, or data handling. Review that service's own conditions before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, code, and logos presented by Shelby County Criminal History belong to the website or its content partners. Written permission is required before copying, modifying, distributing, or creating derivative material from that protected content.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the broadest extent permitted by law, Shelby County Criminal History is not responsible for losses or damages arising from website use, including reliance on material found here or through an outside service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold Shelby County Criminal History harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your use of the website or your violation of these conditions. That duty includes related costs and reasonable legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Kentucky law governs these conditions. Any proceeding tied to website use must be brought in a court located within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

12. Changes to These Terms

Shelby County Criminal History may revise these conditions at any time. A revision becomes effective when the updated language is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected term will be narrowed only as far as necessary to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
