Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Shelby County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search box is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and delivers its result. Shelby County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email message may be retained so our team can respond. We keep that correspondence within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems automatically receive basic technical details when a page loads:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help show which pages draw visits and where sessions end. Analytics providers combine this traffic information into reports. A browser can reject cookies, although some features may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Operating the site and maintaining page speed
  • Routing a search query to the provider that handles it
  • Measuring which content is useful and where it needs improvement
  • Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Shelby County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general routing information for the Circuit Court Clerk, sheriff, detention center, Kentucky State Police, Administrative Office of the Courts, and Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy policies govern submitted information, retention, and disclosure. We do not control those practices. Review the provider's policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links lead to courts, law-enforcement offices, Kentucky agencies, legal resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before sharing personal information.

Some advertising providers may track activity across websites for targeted ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Information may be available to these limited recipients:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices protect the information we collect. No internet system can guarantee complete security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, it will be removed after notice.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy rules and the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act, KRS 367.110 through 367.300, may provide rights concerning personal information. The Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, and KRS 17.150 govern government records and criminal-history dissemination rather than data held by this private site. Depending on the law that applies, you may:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing

Updates to This Policy
